Abstract
We first review the discrete model, which is now used to investigate the phase transitions in chiral smectic liquid crystals. The model is shown to successfully explain the field-induced phase transitions experimentally observed in MHPOCBC. In addition, we investigated the roles of interlayer interactions such as nonlinear nearest-neighbor and chiral interactions in detail by using a simplified discrete model.
