Abstract

This research utilizes LDPE plastic pyrolysis residue and boiler crust ash as additives in asphalt modification toimprove the hydrophobic properties of asphalt. Tests were conducted with time variations of 15, 30, 45, 60, and 75mins. Contact angle measurements of asphalt mixtures, with the addition of LDPE plastic pyrolysis residues andboiler scale ash, as well as asphalt mixtures with the addition of LDPE plastic pyrolysis residues and silica, resultedin contact angle values greater than 90°, indicating that the asphalt mixtures possess hydrophobic properties.Characterization results using FTIR analysis showed the presence of C-H, O-H, Si-O-Si, and Si-O functional groupsin the modified asphalt samples. The modification of asphalt with these additives can enhance its hydrophobicproperties.
