Abstract

This study purposed to determine the specific activity of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K in samples of fly ash, bottom ash, and soil around Coal-Fired Power Plants (CFPP) at sugar industry. The three samples of fly ash and bottom ash were taken from the Shilo, and nine soil samples were taken at a radius of (0-4) km from the CFPP. Samples counting using gamma-ray spectrometry with an HPGe detector was carried out. Samples were measured for 17 hours and processed using Maestro software. As a result, the specific activity of 226Ra and 40K in fly ash and bottom ash is still below the average value, except for 232Th in fly ash with an average value of 88.45±2.48 Bq/kg above the reported value. Specific activity measurements of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K in the soil around sugar industryshowed the highest concentrations on the closest earth from the CFPP chimney. This study concludes that the specific activity of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K in fly ash, bottom ash, and soil samples around sugar industrydid not significantly increase.
