Abstract

The effect of gamma radiation on the absorption capacity of dowex-50 W ion change resin have been studied. The resin absorption capacities were measured by the diferent of uranium concentration when uranium solution was pased trough the resin bed in column. The uranium concentration were measured by polarographic method. Co-60 source with dose rates of 7260,6389 and 10 6 rad/hour and a spent fuel source with the dose rates of 5200 rae/hour have been used in this experiment. The results show that the absorption capacity dowex-50 W ion exchange decreased if the dose ranged from 5 x 10 5 rad until 10 7 rad, and nitric acid was capable of protecting the dowex-50W ion exchange resin from radiation.
