Abstract

FRESH WATER FROM SEA WATER. An adequate supply of fresh water containing a minimum of dissolved minerals is essential to life. Natural water supplies on land ultimately upon nature's own purification system, namely the evaporation of surface water and its subsequent precipitation as rain. There are, however, some areas where there is a serious shortage of water. The problem is particularly acute on the comparatively small, densely populated islands. The demand for water is increasing from time to time due to the world's growing populations. And as living standard are rising, in many parts of the world, so is the demand for water. To fulfil this water demand, therefore, some efforts have been done including sea water purification. Some methods of purifying sea water, namely through destilation, freezing, ionization and other methods, are presented in this article.
