Abstract

Indonesia is participating in joint research between Asia-Pacific countries and national cooperation research training programs within Indonesia as part of a long-term effort to improve scientific education and technological development. Magnetic materials studies constitute an area of considerable interest within the discipline of materials science and solid state physics. Most of the research to date has concentrated upon crystal structure studies of permanent magnetic materials (R-Fe7O -X, Nd sub 2Fe sub 14 B), giant magnetoresistance materials ((Sm,R)Mn sub 2Ge sub 2 ) and magnetostrictive materials (Tb,R)Fe sub 2 ). Characterization research on a Terfenol-D single phase magnetostrictive alloy composite polymer has been carried out and a process developed to produce single-phase single domain powders (23% powder volume ratio), as is discussed and described in detail in this paper.
