Abstract

The endophytic bacteria symbiotic into patchouli plant (Pogostemon cablin B.) potentially stimulate the growth of plants. The purposes of this study were to select and characterize the ability of endophytic bacteria to stimulate patchouli plant growth. The endophytic bacteria were isolated from patchouli plant sources: B6 clone (ICABIOGRAD collection), Sidikalang, and Patchoulina varieties. The endophytic bacteria were isolated and selected based on several tests then characterized on physiology, biochemical, and genetic characters. The characterization on physiology and biochemical covering the characters: inhibition phytopathogen activity, potential of nitrogen fixation and phosphate solvent, also the IAA like-compound producing, while genetic characterization was carried out based on 16srRNA sequencing analysis. The results showed that fourteen of the isolates were detected to produce IAA-like compounds. There were 4 of 29 non-pathogenic isolates (B63.8; B63.10; NSD 20; P 35) that could fix nitrogen and dissolve phosphate. The NSD 20 was the most potential isolate as a biostimulant candidate. The identification genetic character showed that NSD 20 had the highest similarity with Bacillus sp. Y14 (93.95%). Next in planta characterization in greenhouse and field are needed to determine
