Abstract

Homalomena adei is identified as a new species from Indonesian New Guinea. This new species shares morphological similarities with H. steenisiana but differs in having 12–13 leaves per crown, petiole shorter than blade, sheath ⅓ to ⅗ petiole length, apiculate leaf apex, peduncle ⅔ length of the petiole at anthesis, ribbed spathe, pistillate flowers zone shorter than the staminate flowers zone, and staminode less than ½ the height of the ovary. These distinct features provide important diagnostic traits for H. adei within the small rheophytic Homalomena of New Guinea.
