Abstract

Sulphur-crested cockatoo is a bird from Psittacidae family. This research aimed to describe daily behaviour and determine nutrient requirement, and feeding palatability of sulphur-crested cockatoo by providing several types of feed. The study was conducted using 12 sulphur-crested cockatoos consisting of six males and six females in Bird Captivity, Research Center for Biology-LIPI for six weeks. Feed treatment to the birds consisting of control diet (P0), control diet with 50% pellet (P1), control diet with 75% pellet (P2). The feed given as a control during the research were sweet corn, guava, carrots, bean sprouts, long beans, sunflower seeds, and peanuts. Parameter measured were feed intake, feed palatability, and daily behaviour. The results showed that the highest levels feed preferences of P0 were corn and sunflower seeds. The highest levels of P1 and P2 were pellets and corn. The average consumption of dry matter, ash, crude protein, crude fibre and energy showed that P2 was higher than P0 and P1. The results of the male and female daily behaviour cockatoos showed that the most daily activity was perching 63.72% in male birds and 67.13% in female birds.
