Abstract

ABSTRACT
STORAGE AND DISPOSAL OF HIGH LEVEL RAD!OAKTIF WASTE AS SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL AND WASTE-GLASS AS V!TR!F!CAT!ON PRODUCT Storage and disposal ofspent nuclear fuel and waste-glass as vitrification product are compared. For Open Nuclear Fuel Cycle, spent nuclear fuel after discharge from reactor, then stored in the pool of reactorfor decreasing decay heat for 5 years. After that the spent nuclear fuel are transfered to interim storage in pool at reactor or away from reactor. After interim storage for 40 - 60 years, spent nuclear fuel will be moved to disposal site in the deep geological disposal about 500 - 1000 m from surface layer. For Closed Nuclear Fuel Cycle, high level liquid waste arising from the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel are immobilized by borosilicate glass. Interim storage of waste-glass are conducted by air cooling system for 30 - 50 years to avoid devitrification. The continuous step, waste-glass will be disposed in the deep geological. The storage of high level waste in the form of waste-glass, radionuclide were bounded by glass matrix in the stainless steel canister, there is no critical, and corrosion rate of canister is low, but in theform ofspent nuclearfuel it is need handlingfor along time because contain actinide elements. Conceptual disposal for spent nuclear fuel and waste - glass are the same, and disposalfor both have not been conducted.
