Abstract
As a chronic disease, the goal of asthma treatment is not a cure. Many international guidelines stated that the goal of astma treatment is to achieve controlled asthma. Asthma control is identified as achieving and maintaining control of symptoms and normal activity levels, maintaining pulmonary function as close to normal as possible, preventing asthma exacerbations and asthma mortality, and avoiding adverse effects from asthma medications. Uncontrolled asthma does not only cause morbidity and mortality, but also cause devastation of patients’ work life and social life. However, a 2008 Europeansurvey showed that 56.6% of asthma patients were not well controlled. In Asia-Pacific Region the asthma control in population is also very low. Thus, to achieve controlled asthma might needa thorough understanding about treatment approach.
