In the case of reformation in monetary authority, the policy of strengthening centra bank (Bank Indonesia/BI) independence still faces substantial problems, including the lack of independent institution to assess and monitor the performance of Bank Indonesia and the weakness in accountability mechanism in assessing the monetary policy shall be taken into account in pursuing the the single policy target of inflation stability. In the exchange rate policy, the floating exchange rate system accompanied by liberalisation of financial sector and open capital account are important to give a strong foundation for long term economic growth of Indonesia, although it give rise the volatility of the rupiah exchange rate in the short run.
