Abstract

ANALYSIS AND CONTROL OF THE WATER CONDUCTIVITY ON THE MIX BED COLUMM RESIN OF DEMINERALIZED WATER SYSTEM (GCA 01). Mix-bed column is the column (tube) containing a mixture of cation exchange resin and anion exchange resin that serves as the last media to purify raw water into demineralized water. Conductivity of water output from the mix bed column resin has been analyzed using conduktivitymeter HACH senION5.. From the measurement results it was noticed that value of the water conductivity output of the mix bed column resin increase from 0.1 μS/cm to be 0.28 μS/cm. This increase due to impurities ion released from exchange resin column cations and anions forming salt compound during ion exchange process in which it obstructs the process. By stirring and rinsing of ion exchange resin, value of conductivity is successfully controlled to normal condition of 0.1μS/cm. It then can be concluded that homogeneity of ion exchange resin should be maintained in order to keep its performance as purification media.
