Bioactive Substance Contained in Holothurians. Holothurians develop toxic substances in various part of their body. It might be used either as protective against predator or as active toxins for catching prey. Some of these compounds may have additional functions within the animals. For one is the antibiotic of saponins. A steroid organic compounds, holothurin, has been extracted from certain holothurians. Some papers have been published considering various aspect of this substance. This report tries to highlight this issue to researches for further investigation.
