Some Notes On Sea Urchin Fisheries. Sea urchins have been harvested for thousands of years from many nearshore temperate and tropical areas. Information of these small-scale fisheries is generally scattered and or sometimes unreported. Fisheries for sea urchin roe occur in Mediterranean countries, north Pacific, Japan, and some part of west Pasicif region.The most important genera are Stronglylocentrotus, Anthocidaris and Tripneustes. Word landings was dominated by Japan, and north American countries. About approximatelly 50.000 ton of urchins is landed annually worlwide. The article discussed the prospects of it's fishery as well as several aspects of their mariculture.
