Abstract

Brief Information on Lamp-Shell, Phylum Brachipoda. The phylum Brachiopoda is marine benthic invertebrate, which is visually similar to pelecy -pod molluscs by having a pair of shell or valves. The difference is that the valves of brachiopods are dorso-ventral and those of pelecypod are lateral. They represent an ancient group of animal and many of them are left as fossil records. There are 260 living species have been recorded and one of genera, Lingula, is known as living fossil. The Siboga Expedition during 1899 to 1900 had recorded brachiopods from Indonesian waters. This article informed their certain biological aspects i.e. morpho-logy and anatomy, life cycle, food and feeding habits, habitat and geographical distri-bution.
