Abstract

The crown-of-thorns starfish, Acanthaster planci is belong to echinoderms and one of the most widely distributed of all reef species. Fishermans at Seribu Islands called Acanthaster planci as "Bulu Seribu" because of the number of spines. Several outbreak have reported and Acanthaster planci became very popular due to the ability to destroy coral reef in many areas. This paper will discuss morfology, reproduction, growth, behaviour, outbreak, using linier growth of spine to determine their age, control programs to deal with Acanthaster planci outbreak and research on Acanthas-ter planci in Indonesia.
