Abstract

Characterization study of stoneware composition containing 30% RRC feldspar. 30% Belitung Quarts. 30% Belitung Kadin and 10% Batur Clay which was fired at 1250°C has been carried out. The aim of the study was that to observe the body characteristic of raw state, either the state before or after firing.
It was found that the ceramic body composition of P-12 fulfilled the criteria for stoneware that is it could be a plastis mass with water addition of about
30-35%, dry shrinkage 8%, firing shrinkage 7%, total shrinkage 14% and water absorption 2.42%. This is in accordance with the standard of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Because of those characteristics so that the body of P-12 could be shaped without changing the shape, cracking or breaking during shaping, drying and firing.
