Abstract
Every year, approximately 60 volcanoes erupt on earth, and despite almost 80% of them occurring under the oceans, terrestrial volcanic eruptions commonly cause great impacts on vegetation over large areas. Merapi is one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes. In 4 June 2006, the Geger Boyo Flank in Kaliadem was collapsed and since then until 14 of June pyroclastic flows were occurred. The flows moved down the slope through Gendol River (Kaliadem area) with Pinus merkusii dominance vegetation became the heavily affected. An assessment of the damaged vegetation, especially the dominant ones was conducted in May 2008 using vegetation analysis and transect method we developed a criteria for the damaged pine trees and illustrated them in a form of 3D NMDS model and distribution map. Recovery trajectory of the Pine forest stand was also assessed.
