Abstract
Water quality is a very common issue facing by person, community even government, especially in the populate areas and big cities. The Jakarta population is 8,524,190 (April 2011 based on Department of Population and Civil Registry, Dinas Kependudukan dan Pencatatan Sipil). The average population growth rate in Jakarta of 2000 – 2012 is 1.4% per year. The growth directly correlated to an increase in waste/litter which is blown, thrown, washed and contaminate waters. The objective of this paper is to analyze water quality impact to seaweed especially, related to hydrological condition at Seribu island. The study area was selected at Seribu island. In addition, also water quality parameters at Tangerang site were analyzed for comparison study. The environment has been significantly affected by a range of human activities as well as natural forces. The impacts of coastal waste to Seribu Islands are ecosystem degradation (disappearance of islands and a dramatic decline in reef health) and polluted water. The results obtained the water quality at Seribu island showed they ranged in classes II and class III/IV based on Government Regulation No.82/2001. Moreover, study of the seaweed potential at Pari island where large quantities of harvest could be obtained only in May until July. On the other hand, wind conditions in January around Pari Island is dominated by winds blowing from the northwest to the southeast (0.76 m/s – 8.03 m/s). In July, the flow is dominated by wind conditions blowing from the southeast to the northwest (0.99 m/s - 7.79 m/s). Possibility the patterns of currents and wind factors carried the waste disposal sites that pollute the beach where seaweed cultivation. The role of local government is integrated waste management at Jakarta Bay and Seribu Islands involving four sectors: upstream zone, urban zone, mainland coastal areas and small islands (Seribu islands)
