Abstract

This research discusses the level of understanding of nazirs (trustees) regarding cash waqf and its implementation in the Islamic economy. Through a literature review, data was collected from various relevant sources, and the analysis results indicate that the nazirs' understanding of cash waqf is still low. The low level of understanding hinders the independent implementation of cash waqf due to a lack of adequate information and education. This research also shows that the low level of understanding can reduce public trust in waqf management institutions. The potential of cash waqf in Indonesia has not been fully realized, despite the increase in cash waqf receipts and disbursements. To improve public understanding of cash waqf, measures such as education and campaigns, collaboration with Islamic financial institutions, involvement of religious scholars and communities, effective communication approaches, engagement of educational institutions, transparency and accountability, as well as building networks and collaborations can be taken. With these steps, it is expected that the understanding and participation of the community in implementing cash waqf can be enhanced, which in turn will support the development of the Islamic economy in Indonesia.
