Abstract
Mamuju area in West Sulawesi considered as the high natural background radiation area in Indonesia. Our previous study showed that the mean mitotic index (MI) and nuclear division index (NDI) in lymphocytes of Botteng village inhabitants was lower compared to control samples. A total 60 people enrolled consisted of 35 samples from study area and 25 from control. MI was calculated manually and automatically using Matafer imaging system. NDI was calculated with CBMN. Results showed that mean manual MI was lower compared to control. In contrast automatic MI was higher compared to control. It was concluded that chronically low radiation dose exposure has no significant effects on the lymphocytes proliferation.
