Ranup dalam adat upacara perkawinan pada masyarakat Aceh (Studi kasus Desa Lipah Rayeuk, Kabupaten Bireuen)

The research method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method. In addition, this study uses data collection techniques in the form of participant observation techniques and interviews with key informants who know the community's marriage ceremony customs and know about ranup. The results of this study explain that the meaning of ranup is as a means of intracultural communication media to honor and glorify guests, as a liaison for friendship, as opening words in traditional wedding ceremonies and as series of community activities. The tradition carried out in Lipah Rayeuk Village is the Ba Ranup Tradition in a traditional marriage ceremony which means the tradition of carrying ranup is a habit that is carried out by the Acehnese people when a male parent engagement to a woman, the prospective groom's family brings betel or ranup to the women house. The family of the prospective groom brought betel or ranub to the bride's house as a binder for the woman who had been proposed, but the groom is not presented until they are married.
