Abstract
John Duns Scotus was moved to answer the question of ‘does God have knowledge of all contingent realities?’ In Lectura I 39 he offers the concept of the relationship between God’s will and knowledge which is synchronic, not diachronic. This concept differs from the previous notion that God’s absolute knowledge has nothing to do with contingent reality. Lectura I 39 shows that itis possible for God who has definite and unchanging knowledge to know contingent realities based on their ontological aspects, namely their changing and contingent characteristics.
