Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that in elementary schools, the teacher's learning process still often uses lecture and learning methods that emphasize cognitive aspects, does not involve students so that they are less independent in learning, and even tends to be passive in class as a result of low student learning outcomes. This study aims to improve the science learning process, specifically by using the inquiry method in class IV SDN 15 Koto Lalang. This type of research is called "classroom action research" and uses both qualitative and quantitative approaches. consists of two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings that include four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. When this research was carried out in semester II of the 2018–2019 school year, the subjects of this study were teachers and fourth grade students at SDN 15 Koto Lalang. The findings revealed an increase in a) learning planning in cycle I meeting I with an average of 63.26%, and cycle I meeting II with 76.17%, indicating that cycle I meeting II experienced an increase. Cycle II increased by 83.33%, which is a very good increase.b) teacher observation of learning cycle I meeting I, 62.50%; cycle I meeting II, 62.50%; 79.10% so that it experienced an increase in cycle II (95.23%) in the student aspect, namely cycle I meeting I at 62.50%, cycle I meeting II at 79.16% so that it experienced an increase in cycle II (958%) very well, and learning outcomes of cycle 1 per friend 1 with an average of 63.39, cycle 1 meeting II with an average of 73.26, and cycle II with an average of 84.20. Thus, it can be concluded that increasing student learning outcomes in science learning using the inquiry method can improve student learning outcomes.
