Abstract

This research originates from the fact that at school, students are less active and interested in learning during the learning process, which causes low student learning outcomes. This is because in the learning process: (1) the teacher does not use the right approach steps in the learning process; (2) the teacher is more dominant using conventional methods and does not use varied methods; and (3) the worksheets given by the teacher are not in accordance with the material taught. This can be overcome by using the experimental method. The purpose of this study is to describe the increase in student learning outcomes in science learning using the experimental method in class IV at Alai Public Elementary School, Padang City. This study uses a qualitative and quantitative approach to the type of action research conducted in the classroom. The subjects of this study were fourth grade students at SD Negeri 03 Alai Padang City, class teachers as observers, and researchers as practicing teachers. In practice, this research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Data obtained through observation and evaluation sheets The results of research on learning planning cycle I obtained an average of 66%, and in cycle II it increased by an average of 84%. Implementation of learning in the first cycle of teacher activities obtained an average of 67.5% and in the second cycle increased to an average of 87.5%. In cycle I, student activities get an average of 62.5% and experience an increase in cycle II with an average of 85%. Furthermore, the student learning outcomes in the first cycle on the three aspects obtained an average of 65.40 with the qualification (C), and in the second cycle, the student learning outcomes in the three aspects increased to an average of 75.10 with the qualification (B). Thus, it can be concluded that there is an increase in student learning outcomes in science learning using the experimental method in class IV SD Negeri 03 Alai, Padang City.
