Abstract

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) is one of the main plantation crops in Kolaka Utara. This plant is used as raw material for the tobacco, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food spice industries. However, before being processed into spice products, cinnamon must be dried first. The conventional drying process of cinnamon takes 4-5 days, even up to 6-7 days if the weather is not favorable. Therefore, in this research, an automatic cinnamon drying device using renewable energy is designed. This research uses the research and development method with predetermined stages. These stages include system design, prototype creation, prototype testing, and system optimization. The designed system uses a timer, push button, relay, heater, fan, and solar panel system. The test results show that this device can dry 1000 grams of cinnamon in 4 hours.
