Abstract
The shallow water regular urchins commonly feed on various algal and seagrasses species. Some authors assumed that rook-boring urchins feeding strategy is to remain fixed and to ingest detrital algae washed into their burrows by water movement across the reef It appears that most regular urchins will eat almost anything, but some tend to a carnivorous, other to a herbivorous, diet, although in the lack of preferred items they wiU ingest the bottom material, and in fact act as general scavengers. The irregular urchins and sand dollars are deposit feeders. It passively traps detritus in the funnel that connect its burrow to surface of sediment. The digestive tract is prominent within the body cavity, extending from the mouth to the anus, commonly their consist of pharynx, oesophagus, large intestine, small intestine, rectum and anus. Digestion efficiency as well as grazing effects on the benthic algal community will be discussed in this article.
