Abstract

FUJINAGA (1942) was the first biologist who studied the biology of Penaeus japonicus from eggs up to nauplius stage. Six years later he succeeded in developing the larva from zoea to mysis and post larva by giving Skeletonema costatum as its food. In Indonesia the shrimp culture was started by using the larvae which were collected from the estuary and coastal waters. Larvae rearing in Indonesia was begun in South Sulawesi in 1964, There are four culture types with varying intensity which based on stock density and food supply i,e: traditional culture, semi intensive culture, intensive culture, and power station prawn culture.
