Abstract
Papaya leaves contain secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, tannins, phenolics, saponins, flavonoids and steroids which may act as natural larvicides. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of ethyl acetate extract of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) as larvicide for the Aedes aegypti mosquito and its toxicity. This study used 7 treatments with a concentration of ethyl acetate extract of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) 1%; 2%; 3%; 4%; 5%; Temephos 1% as a positive control and aquadest as a negative control, each group containing 25 larvae of Aedes aegypti instar III and IV with 4 times in a row. The data obtained were then analyzed using the One Way ANOVA test, the Post Hoc LSD (Least Significance Different) test, and the probit test. The results of the Post Hoc LSD test are the effectiveness of papaya leaves extract at a concentration of 3%; 4%; and 5% had no significant difference (P>0,05) with the positive control (Temephos 1%). The results of the probit analysis obtained an LC50 value of 2,09% so it can be said that the ethyl acetate extract of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) has effectiveness as a larvicide and has toxic properties in killing Aedes aegypti larvae.
