Abstract

This study was motivated by the low motivation and achievement of civics learning of students in class XI IPA SMA Negeri 3 Pariaman compared to other class XI IPA. This is thought to be caused by the learning pattern carried out by the teacher which still makes students less active in the learning process and the lack of variety of models in learning Civics. One of the cooperative learning methods chosen from the results of discussions between teachers and researchers in this study is the Group Investigation method. Group Investigation is one of the learning models that supports student involvement in learning activities. The purpose of the study was to increase students' motivation and learning achievement through the application of cooperative learning type Group Investigation in class XI IPA SMA Negeri 3 Pariaman. . This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) consisting of 3 (three) cycles. Each cycle includes 4 (stages) namely: 1) planning, 2) implementation, 3) observation and 4) reflection. This research was conducted in class XI IPA SMA Negeri 3 Pariaman with 6 (five) meetings. The subjects of this study were students of class XI IPA SMA Negeri 3 Pariaman even semester of the 2018/2019 academic year totaling 29 students, consisting of 17 male students and 12 female students. The results of this study indicate an increase in the average value of each cycle observation. Assessment of learning motivation has increased the average class score from cycle I is 1.67 predicate C (Fair), cycle II is 2.72 predicate B (Good) and cycle is 2.83 predicate B (Good) and for the assessment of the average class competency test I obtained 45.52, competency test II obtained 79.41, and competency test III 81.75. From the results of interviews with teachers and students also said the learning process using Group Investigation was more fun. After carrying out class action research, it was concluded that the Group Investigation learning model could increase the learning motivation and learning achievement of Civics students in class XI IPA SMA Negeri 3 Pariaman.
