Abstract

Learning is still teacher-centered, making it boring for students. The flat area learning in SDN 16 Surau Gadang is still conventional. For this reason, researchers are interested in improving the process of learning mathematics, especially learning in square and rectangular areas through the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach. The CTL approach is felt to be able to overcome the existing problems. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. Research data in the form of information about the process and action data obtained from observations, test results, discussions and documentation. The data source is the process of implementing mathematics learning through the CTL approach in class III SDN 16 Surau Gadang. The research subjects consisted of 29 students of class III SDN 16 Surau Gadang. Data analysis was performed using a data analysis model. The research procedure was carried out through 4 stages, namely 1) planning 2) implementation 3) observation 4) reflection. The results of the study conducted an average percentage of student learning outcomes in cycle I with square area material is 80% in cycle I meeting 2 with rectangular material is 69%, cycle II with square and rectangular area material is 97% in cycle II 2nd meeting is 98%. The conclusion obtained from this study is that the CTL approach can improve the learning outcomes of the flat area of the square and rectangular area.
