Abstract

ABSTRACT
INVESTIGATION OF IRON TOTAL CROSS-SECTIONS IN HIGH ENERGY THROUGH
BROOMSTICK CALCULATION FOR NEW VERSION EVALUATED NUCLEAR DATA FILES.
The use of iron material often found in the core structure and shielding of nuclear reactors. The
investigation of neutron cross-sections for iron contained in new evaluated nuclear data files such
as JENDL-4, ENDF/B-VII, JEFF-3.1 and RUFOND-2010 files have been performed through
broomstick calculation. Main purpose of this research is to clarify the applicability of iron total crosssections
in high neutron energy contained on new several nuclear data files. The broomstick
calculation for iron have been analysed based on ORNL-Broomstick Experiment made by Straker.
The broomstick calculation method was performed into the following two parts: (1) to determine a
transmitted uncollided neutron spectrum, (2) to fold the value of calculated uncollided neutron
spectrum from the preceding step with the resolution function of the NE-213 spectrometer system
that actually used in experiment. For investigation and data analysis, the calculation analyses with
several new evaluated nuclear data files have also been carried out. The calculation results by
using JENDL-4 file and JEFF-3.1 files show in good agreement with the experimental data,
compared with the ENDF/B-VII and RUSFOND-2010 files. Particularly, JENDL-4 file gives best
results on C/E (1.0060) than ENDF/B-VII (0.9081), JEFF-3.1 (0.9860) and RUSFOND-2010
(1.0696) files on 20.32 cm iron thickness samples. Whereas, for 30.48 cm iron thickness samples,
the C/E profiles have same systematic tendency, despite of RUSFOND-2010 data files give the
better value of C/E, but the standard deviation value is little bit higher than JENDL-4 or JEFF-3.1
files. From overall results, it has been concluded that the total cross-sections of iron contained in
new evaluated nuclear data file of JENDL-4 is very applicable especially for shielding calculation
analyses. Meanwhile, from the broomstick calculation result of JEFF-3.1 file is becoming close to
JENDL-4 file.

INVESTIGASI TAMPANG LINTANG TOTAL BESI PADA ENERGI TINGGI MELALUI
PERHITUNGAN BROOMSTICK UNTUK FILE DATA NUKLIR TERBARU. Material besi banyak
digunakan dalam material struktur dan perisai radiasi reakrtor nuklir. Telah dilakukan perhitungan
broomstick untuk investigasi tampang lintang total neutron untuk material besi pada file data nuklir
terevaluasi versi terbaru seperti JENDL-4, ENDF/B-VII, JEFF-3.1 dan RUSFOND-2010. Tujuan
penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki tampang lintang total besi untuk energi neutron tinggi pada
pustaka data nuklir terbaru. Perhitungan broomstick untuk material besi ini didasarkan pada
percobaan broomstick yang telah dilakukan oleh Straker. Metode perhitungan broomstick
dilakukan dengan dua bagian yaitu (1) menentukan spektrum neutron uncollided yang
ditransmisikan dan (2) dari nilai spektrum neutron uncollided yang diperoleh sebelumnya dengan
memperhitungkan fungsi resolusi sistem spektrometer NE-213 yang digunakan dalam eksperimen
Untuk analisis dan insvestigasi, analisis perhitungan melibatkan beberapa file data nuklir terbaru.
Hasil perhitungan broomstick menggunakan file data terbaru JENDL-4 dan JEFF-3.1 menunjukkan
kesesuaian yang baik dengan hasil eksperimen, dibandingkan menggunakan ENDF/B-VII dan
RUSFOND-2010 files. Khususnya, hasil perhitungan boomstick untuk ketebalan sample besi 20.32
cm, file JENDL-4 memberikan hasil perhitungan C/E terbaik (1.0060) dibandingkan dengan
ENDF/B-VII ((0.9081), JEFF-3.1 (0.9860) dan RUSFOND-2010 (1.0696). Sedangkan untuk
ketebalan sample besi 30.48cm memberikan tedensi profil yang sama, meskipun file RUSFOND-
2010 memberikan nilai C/E yang baik, tetapi standard deviasinya sedikit lebih tinggi dibanding file
JENDL-4 dan JEFF-3.1. Secara keseluruhan hasil perhitungan memberikan kesimpulan bahwa file
terbaru JENDL-4 sangat baik untuk analisis perhitungan perisai radiasi. Sementara itu file JEFF-
3.1 cenderung mendekati hasil JENDL-4 file.
