Abstract
The method that is often used by teachers in Civics is to use the lecture method which tends to be teacher-centered, so that the learning atmosphere becomes boring. Finally, it has an impact on the low student learning outcomes. Therefore, innovation is needed in the use of learning models that involve students actively in order to achieve optimal learning outcomes. Mind map and discussion learning models can be used as alternatives that can encourage students to actively develop their potential. The problems taken are: 1) How are student learning activities in the Civics learning process using discussion learning methods with mind map media and conventional discussions at SMP Negeri 8 Padang 2) Is there a difference in Civics learning outcomes between students who receive discussion method learning with mind map media? and conventional discussions at SMP Negeri 8 Padang. The objectives of this study were: 1) to find out how students' learning activities in the Civics learning process used the discussion learning method with mind map media and conventional discussions at SMP Negeri 8 Padang, 2) to find out whether there were differences in PKN learning outcomes between students who received learning methods. discussion learning with mind map media and conventional discussions at SMP Negeri 8 Padang. The population in the study, namely the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Padang in 2020, totaled 65 students. The sample was taken using a cluster random sampling technique, namely taking samples from the population randomly within the population. The variables in this study were student learning outcomes in Civics subjects. Data collection techniques were taken through tests, documentation and observation. The research data were analyzed using validity, reliability, level of problem difficulty, sample average similarity test, and test test. The results showed the average student learning activity in two meetings, namely the experimental class of 77.18 and the control class of 75.10. . While the average value of the experimental class posttest results is81.7, while the control class is 72.88. Test the hypothesis using the SPSS 21 program. The t count is 4.759 t table with dk 2n – 2 = 62 at a significant level of 0.05 is 1.670, so t count > t table then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that there is a difference in learning outcomes between the experimental class and the control class. Thus, the discussion learning model using mind map media is effective in improving the learning outcomes of class VII students of SMP Negeri 8 Padang.
