Abstract

Natural Sciences (IPA) is one of the subjects taught in schools. Based on the results of preliminary observations, it was found that during the learning process, most of the students were less active, they would be active when given assignments, did not pay attention to the teacher's explanation, many students did not finish working on the questions in the allotted time. Students also seem unmotivated in the lesson. In addition to the growth of motivation, teachers must also generate motivation in students to be stimulated to learn the material and want to understand further lessons. This study formulates a problem: Can the application of the Think-Pair-Share type of cooperative learning model improve science learning achievement in class VIII.3 SMPN 11 Padang?. This study aims to improve science learning outcomes for students of class VIII.3 SMPN 11 Padang through the application of the Think-Pair-Share type of cooperative learning model. Judging from the average value of the class, the learning achievement in the pre-cycle was 69.7, the first cycle was 73.4 and the second cycle was 82.81. Thus, there was an increase from pre-cycle to cycle II of 13.11. Meanwhile, from the mastery of learning in the pre-cycle, there were 15 students or 46.8% completed, in the first cycle there were 20 students or 62.5%. While in the second cycle, 28 students or 87.5% of students completed the completion of the second cycle. So, judging from the completeness of learning from pre-cycle to Cycle II, there was an increase of 40.7%. From the data obtained in the pre-cycle, cycle I and cycle II, it can be concluded that the application of the Think-Pair-Share type of cooperative learning model is proven to improve student achievement in class VIII.3 SMPN 11 Padang.
