Abstract
DISEASES OF MARINE FISHES. Studies of marine fish disease have been sporadic and inadequate until recently. Although knowledge of fresh water fish diseases particularly those of hatchery fish has progressed rapidly in the past few decades, little attention was given for understanding the role of diseases in marine fishes. Diseases of marine fishes are important economically because they reduce the number of fish available to mm or they reduce the quality of fish as food. Diseases of marine fishes are the result of the activity of infectious microorganisms, parasite invasion and genetic or environmentally induced abnormalities. But microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa as well as the parasites group such as helminth and Crustacea are considered as the important diseases agents. This paper describe the kinds of pathogens and parasites of marine fishes, the effects of diseases to their fish hosts and man and the chemicals or antibiotics which have been used for the diseases treatments.
