Abstract
The study of settlement area in Prehindu period in Bali, had become a problem of idea and ideolcy. It is the concept of ritual belief in its connection with nature. So that, the symbol of space arrangement in Bali is based on the concept of "luan -- teben"/ "upper course -- lower course". This concept is directive to the mountain at the north ("kaja") and the sea at the south ("kelod"). Mountain is considered as a holly place and sea is a propan place. The structure of village had been arranged, so that the holly places located on mountain or holly area (“luan"), the propan places as a residence is in the middle space, at last the grave yard located at the back or "teben" of the village. This concept had been used since Pre-Hindu era until today
