Abstract
This writing uses etnoarchaeological approach in the form ofetnographical data to describe about boat maker 's behaviour in making traditional boat in Northern coast area (Pantura), Jepara, Central Java. It explains about the process of boat making since material choice, thetools they used, ritual ceremony and the process itself. Besides that, names/ terms, parts/ components ofboats used Javanese terms and names. Archaeological evidences in the form of material culture give informationabout the boats which are pictured in the relief of Borobudur temple, Inscription source and the artifacts of ancient boats that were found in Indonesia. However, the process of boat making can not be identified through archaeological data. Because of that, by doing research at fishermen village, the information about how to make the boat can be collected. The etnographical data is to explain (as analogy) about boatmaking in Clasic period (Hindu Buddha)
