Abstract

Pakerisan river flow area in Gianyar regency has plenty of archaeological remains and is a heritage from the government of Old Bali (10°--13" century). The existence of religion building along the area ofPakerisan river flow has connection with environment conservation physically and biologically. The example of physical environment conservation is by building a temple by carving the river bank. Prohibiting people to cut down the trees around the area is one example of biological environment conservation by applying traditional norms. All of them were the local genius of ancient Balinese People. It has a meaning, to make the area protected from exploitation and kept sacred. Basically, the construction ofthe river bank temples, holes for meditation, and water source has close relation with water resource management, because almost all of the holly places were built at a water source
