Abstract

Purwodadi Botanic Garden with its diversity plants, have a big and divers litters richness. Leaf litter decomposition rates and liters biomass production were measured by litter bag technique. Biomass litter were sampled by random sampling in every chosen vak (XXII, XXIII, and XXV), using plots of 0.5 m × 0.5 m, from March-April 2010. The organics matter such as lignin, polyphenol, ash and cellulose were also investigated to guess which leaf litter degradated faster than the other. The research results showed that vak XXII with 1021.68 ton/ha was the highest biomass, than vak XXIII (665.627 ton/ha) and XXV (435.584 ton/ha). Vak XXIII was dominated by Kigelia africana, Swietenia macrophylla, Lagerstroemia speciosa, and Ficus benjamina. As the dominant leaf litter in vak XXIII, S. macrophylla, had 52.59% lignin compound. It means that leaf litter in vak XXIII, need longer time than the other to be degraded. Beside the environment condition, lignin, cellulose, and polyphenol compound of leaf litter also affected on leaf litter decomposition.
