Peran cilia dalam kehidupan Isognomon perna, Bivalvia

THE ROLE OF CILIA IN THE LIFE OF ISOGNOMON PERNA, BIVALVIA. Observation was made on the ciliary current of Isognomon perna a sedentary rockdwelling bivalve. It was carried out by way of introducing a tiny amount of powder carmine onto various parts the animal's body, following the removal of the left valve and its associated mantle lobe. The movement of the introduced carmine, which would be a reflection of the ciliary current, was monitored and recorded under the dissecting microscope. The results are presented in diagramatic forms in this article. Several organs which are important in the food taking process i.e. mantle, gills and labial palps were discribed.
