Abstract

PELLETIZED FORMULATED FEED FOR SHRIMPS. Recent devlopments in aquaculture, the success in larval production and the growing interest in the culture of shrimps have shown the need for formulated, supplementary or complete diets that are economical and viable for the shrimp culture. The difficulty in procuring and storing live and fresh food has led to the development of artificial diets. Though there are many formulations or rations reported in the literature which have been found to support and provide for growth, the diets are either too expensive or are not practical for use under Indonesian conditions. In many instances, the feed ingredients in these rations are not available. It is then necessary that an adequate ration is formulated to ensure rapid growth, prevent nutritional diseases, develop and maintain resistance to infections and provide for an attractive and palatable product. Preparation the diet using local materials as potential feed components is presented in the paper.
