Abstract
Kopsia pauciflora Hook.f is a plant that potential to be developed as an ornamental plant, due to its ability to flowering throughout the year. This study aimed to characterize the morphology characters and investigate phenology of the two accessions of K. pauciflora (white and pink flowers). The study was conducted in 2019 at the Purwodadi Botanical Garden, LIPI. K. pauciflora plant used in this study was seed-propagated from the collection of Purwodadi-LIPI Botanical Gardens from Southeast Sulawesi (collection location III G, number 33–33a). The characterization was carried out on morphological character, both in the vegetative and generative organs, while observation of flowering phenology was carried out every day during the flowering phase. The data was documented and analyzed descriptively. Characterization of plant morphology showed that K. pauciflora had a short shrub habitus with different characteristics in the petal lobes, flower color, leaf color, and fruit color. The white flower accession of K. pauciflora hadwhite corolla, green fruits, and young green leaves, while pink flower accession of K. pauciflora had pink corolla, dark red fruits, and young reddish leaves. The results of observations on flowering phenology showed that both accessions, white and pink flowers, were flowering continuously throughout the year. The flowering period for the white flower had a flowering period of 24–26 days with an anthesis period of 7–9 days, while the pink flower was 21–22 days with an anthesis period (the flower is fully open) of 6 days. The flowering stage of K. pauciflora was also presented in this paper. Both accession of K. pauciflora are very potential as lowland ornamental plants.
