Abstract

Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 (BNT) ecofriendly piezoelectric material has been prepared by molten salt method. There are two steps in synthesis process of BNT, the first step is synthesis of Bi2Ti4O11 (BTO) and the next step is formation process of BNT. Crystal BTO is produced by mixing starting materials Bi2O3 and TiO2 and reacting in molten salt NaCl-KCl. Then at step two crystal BTO is mixed with excessive Na2CO3 and sintered until BNT is generated. BNT then characterized by X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) for phase identification and crystal structure and Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) to identify morphology and chemical composition. By varying process parameter such as temperature and NaCl-KCl composition weight ratio, optimal temperature of synthesis BTO at 950 °C is obtained with the weight ratio of NaCl-KCl is equal with the weight of mixture of Bi2O3-TiO2 and the optimal temperature synthesis of BNT at 600 °C. Crystal structure of ceramic BNT is rhombohedral with the lattice parameters a = b = c = 3.884 Å and α = β = γ = 90.12243°. The crystal size of BTO is 16.769 nm and the crystal size of BNT is 17.139 nm
