Abstract

This thesis presents data collected during a study of the temperature dependence of gas gain (G). Five gas mixtures were measured and values for the change in gain devided by the corresponding change in temperature {(AG/G)/(AT/T)} were found to be in the region of 5 to 7. This study has implications for detectors designed to operate in the regions with high backgrounds for example at the SSC (Superconducting Super Collider).
