Abstract

In recent years, one serious problem in many areas of the
worlds is the rapid environmental change caused by various human activities. The development of the remote sensing techniques, computer and data processing systems are becoming more suitable and practicable for monitoring environmental change. Landsat MSS images are available for detecting land-cover change dating back to 1972. This study investigated these images to map the land-cover in Kanto Plain and investigated the land-cover change in Tama Hill District with overlapping Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) approach, which is calculated at different times. The result of study shows that these images are suitable for mapping land-cover in recognizance scale and can be detecting land-cover change based on vegetation change.
