Abstract
This research explores the impact of international tourism on Indonesia’s economic and social development. Using a development studies perspective, the study examines how international tourism contributes to foreign exchange earnings, employment opportunities, and regional development, while also analyzing its socio-cultural and environmental consequences. The research highlights the dual character of tourism as both a development tool and a potential source of dependency and inequality. Through qualitative and quantitative data, the study assesses tourism's effects in selected regions, focusing on the roles of government policy, private investment, and community participation. The findings suggest that while international tourism has significantly benefited Indonesia’s economy, it also presents challenges related to sustainability, cultural preservation, and equitable distribution of gains. The study concludes with policy recommendations aimed at maximizing tourism’s positive impacts while minimizing its negative effects.
