Abstract

In recent years, various kinds of propeller have increased in number worldwide and have undergone considerable development in performance. It makes a design of propeller which based on methodical series test have to be complemented by theoretical calculations for accurate estimation propeller characteristics.

This study investigates the application of a new panel method for calculating the hydrodynamic characteristics of marine propellers. Traditional methods for analyzing propeller performance, such as lifting-line theory and vortex lattice methods, often involve simplifications that limit accuracy, especially for complex geometries. To address these limitations, the research introduces a low-order potential-based panel method that considers the three-dimensional shape of the propeller blade more precisely. The approach enables the estimation of pressure distribution, thrust, torque, and efficiency under various flow conditions. Preliminary validation against known experimental data suggests that the new method offers improved accuracy and computational efficiency, making it a promising tool for practical propeller design and analysis.
