Abstract
This report is specifically focuses on Indian direct investment in Indonesia, based on a preliminary survey analyzing the involvement of Indian investors in the Indonesian economy. The report is a revised version of an earlier paper on Indian joint ventures in Indonesia, which was presented at the Conference on Third World Multinational Corporations held in Honolulu, Hawaii in September 1979.
The study highlights a recent phenomenon in Indonesia’s investment landscape—namely, the growing presence of direct investment from other developing countries, including India. This trend has largely been overlooked by economists despite showing distinct characteristics from investments made by developed countries, particularly in terms of sectors targeted, technology applied, and overall economic impact.
The report aims to provide insights into the nature and implications of foreign investment from developing countries and is intended for economists, policymakers, and others interested in the evolving role of foreign investment in Indonesia's development.
