Abstract
Tissue culture, dealing with the propagation of plantlets in vitro, has many advantages over conventional vegetative propagation, and its application in horticulture, agriculture and forestry is currently expanding worldwide. This study has been focused on the micropropagation of teak (Tectona grandis Linn. f.).
Nodal stems and apical nodes excised from the green house grown seedling were used as starting explants. Sterile explants were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar medium added with hormones in a given concentration for shoot initlation, multiplication and elongation respectively. Cultures were maintained under temperature of 24-27°C. The results revealed that shoots sprouted on day 3 in initiation phase. The achieved multiplication rate was 3-5 shoots per node that sprouted on day 5.
